The film will be shown in Paris today (Monday 7 December) as For The Love Of Yorkshire festival organisers Kate Lock and David Midgley, take part in the climate conference at Le Bourget.

The film will be presented to high-level representatives at the summit, aided by Councillor Alex Sobel from Leeds City Council and academic colleagues at the University of Leeds (which also funded the festival).

Kate said: “We are hugely grateful to all the students that helped us out with this project, and at very short notice, too. They were very professional, thorough and a credit to York St John University.

“I would also like to thank all the staff that facilitated this, especially Jenny Kean, head of Media Production, Ben Burrows, Head of Music Production, lecturer Dan Crawforth and David Lancaster, Head of the Department for Dance, Drama, Media and Music.”

Twelve Film & Television Production students took part in the project for For The Love Of Yorkshire, which involved filming climate-themed events in York, Leeds and Sheffield on Saturday 28 November. The events were part of an international weekend of action demanding a global agreement at the world summit.

Third-year Film and TV students Alice Carter and Jess Sawyer were the production managers for the three film crews, and the film was also edited by Alice, with Sophie Jackson editing sound.

The York crew (Catherine Mason, Andy Palfreyman and Jonathan White) covered a Cycle and Sing event at All Saints Church in North Street, involving a 100-strong ‘climate choir’, speakers on climate change, two bands and a contingent of cyclists from York Bike Belles. A Leeds crew (James Bentley, Luke Billings and Ryan Hawksley) filmed the Leeds March for Climate, Justice and Jobs and a rally organised by Leeds Trade Union Council, while the Sheffield Crew (Alice Carter, Luke Dakin and Annie Sutton) captured the ‘Time to Act’ events organised by Sheffield Climate Alliance.

Music production student Ben Ramscar recorded the song soundtrack for the film.
